About Tiffen
Tiffen is an American filter maker founded in 1938, known for filters used in still photography, film and television. Its store also carries Steadicam, Lowel, Domke and D&S products. I'm a Tiffen Image Maker and brand ambassador.
How I use Tiffen filters
A Tiffen 52mm Red 25 lives on my Leica for black-and-white work: a red filter darkens blue sky, cuts haze and gives skylines and clouds real separation. Filters are central to most of my work, from long exposure to infrared and black-and-white. See choosing filters for how each type changes the picture.
Popular Tiffen filters
- Black Pro-Mist and Glimmerglass: diffusion filters that soften highlights and give a filmic glow.
- ND and variable ND: for long exposures and shooting wide open in bright light.
- Color and black-and-white contrast filters: including the Red 25, yellow, orange and green filters for monochrome.
- Polarizers and protection filters for everyday use.
Range and availability change, so check the shop for current sizes and prices.
