Portraits made two ways. Strangers met on foot and asked — photographed where they stood, in whatever light the street was giving. And sessions built from nothing: a dress on a wing, a night sky held open for minutes at a time. Either way what I look for is the lighting of Renaissance painting: one source, a turned head, everything else allowed to fall away.
